My first book, Let Only Red Flowers Bloom, is set to be published by Crown on March 18, 2025.
Based on years of on-the-ground reporting in mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and beyond it’s a literary non-fiction exploration of what it means to be Chinese today in Xi Jinping’s China.
Drawing on the perspective of those the government are desperate to subjugate, the book dives into the lives of dissidents, ordinary people from all walks of life, and those caught in the political fray, as the constraints on identity and expression in China become tighter and tighter.
Pre-order available on Bookshop.com or Amazon.
I am currently based in Taipei, Taiwan, after nearly seven years reporting from Beijing and mainland China.
I’m attracted to how identity shapes our view of the world and the backstories behind the headlines.
I love stories that explore the overlooked, quirky, and personality-driven side of news.

My reporting has let me nerd out over semiconductors and drones, travel to environmental wastelands and write about girl bands and art. I’ve filed stories from the bottom of a coal mine, the top of a mosque in Qinghai and inside a cave Chairman Mao once lived in.
